Exclusive Look: Inside the Arabescato Corchia Marble Quarry

Journey to Italy with us + see where this iconic marble is born

May 7, 2025

There’s nothing quite like seeing the source of something extraordinary. That’s exactly why we traveled to Italy – to give you an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look inside the Arabescato Corchia quarry, one of the most iconic marble mountains in the world. This journey wasn’t just about admiring natural beauty; it was about gaining an understanding and appreciation for the meticulous process behind extracting this breathtaking material and how it ultimately makes its way into your most sophisticated design projects.

With camera in hand, we documented the entire experience – from the winding drive up the mountain to the incredible view from its peak. Join us for a visual journey into where this beautiful marble’s story begins.

  • Driving up the mountain roads

Our journey began with a scenic, winding drive up the marble mountain. As the road narrowed, the views grew more expansive – rolling hills, sun-drenched valleys, and charming mountainside homes with centuries of character lining the way. Each twist in the road brought us closer to the quarry and heightened our anticipation. This wasn’t just a drive, it was a gradual immersion into a place where nature and craftsmanship converge.

  • Our first look at the bright white marble inside

Stepping out of the vehicle and into the heart of the quarry, we were immediately struck by the brilliance of the marble surrounding us. Towering walls of crisp white stone enclosed the space, catching and reflecting light in every direction. The air was filled with the sounds of machinery and distant voices – a steady hum of productivity. Watching the team at work felt like witnessing a symphony of precision, intention, and respect for the stone. From the first moment, we were in awe.

  • Worker water-drilling into a marble block

We moved closer to one of the many workstations inside the quarry, where a worker was water-drilling into a massive marble block. The sight was mesmerizing. Slow, controlled, and exact. Every action was deliberate. Every station worked in sync. Watching the workers operate with such care underscored how much skill and patience this process requires. There was nothing rushed or chaotic, only the quiet confidence of years of mastery.

  • Tractor extracting a marble block
  • Workers meticulously measuring

Further into the quarry, we watched as a tractor pulled a freshly extracted marble block from the mountain. The size and weight were staggering, yet the movement was smooth, almost graceful. Once extracted, the block was quickly surrounded by a team measuring and inspecting it with incredible attention to detail. Each slab must meet exacting standards before it continues its journey to fabrication. The harmony of strength and finesse in these moments was striking.

  • Walking deeper into the mountain

As we ventured deeper into the mountain, the sights only became more breathtaking. We were surrounded by marble – layer after layer of perfectly cut blocks stacked like ancient relics. The scale was almost surreal and made us feel so small. Every corner revealed another display of nature’s beauty, amplified by the human effort to preserve and present it at its best. It felt as though we were walking through a cathedral made entirely of stone.

  • The panoramic mountain view

Eventually, we made our way outside of the carved mountain. What met us was nothing short of breathtaking: a panoramic view of the Tuscan landscape, with clouds resting just above the peaks and the quarry floor far below. It was a moment of stillness, reflection, and admiration. To see this place from above after witnessing the work being done within, was a reminder of how connected the process is to the natural world around it.

  • Marble, designed by nature

We took a closer look at the raw marble embedded in the mountain walls, still untouched. Veins of grey and ivory rippled through the stone, revealing nature’s own design. It was humbling to think that this stunning material had been slowly formed over millions of years. These close-up views reminded us that marble isn’t made, it’s discovered. And it’s nature, not machinery, that determines its beauty.

  • Marble blocks against the mountain skyline

Our final here captures the marble blocks resting against the skyline; strong, elegant, and perfectly framed by the surrounding peaks. This view marked the end of our visit, but it left us with something far more lasting: a deepened appreciation for the marble itself, and for the extraordinary process that brings it to life. From the mountain’s core to your next design project, every piece of Arabescato Corchia tells a story of origin, craft, and timeless beauty.
